   The cold midnight rain pelted against the cement of the alley behind the liquor store. The only source of light, besides the occasional flashes of lightning, was the faint orange glow of the street lamps of the empty adjacent street.  On any other given night, the midnight rainstorms were welcome in this small Alabama community, as the summer days were hot and muggy.   A lone figure staggered into rthe alley and pulled the hood of his jacket over his head.
